Building Energy Ratings (BER's) |
John Harrington is a qualified BER Assessor and is registered with Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI). We carry out a detailed property inspection and use those inspection records to calculate the energy performance of the building using the Dwelling Energy Assessment. We advise the owner on cost effective ways to improve the energy ratings/label of their buildings.

Building Energy Rating Process
In order to conduct a home energy audit, the BER Assessor visits the home and conducts a physical survey. The survey typically takes about two hours. During the survey, the surveyor takes note of the main elements of the house structure including walls, floors, roof, windows and door types and takes a range of measurements. The Assessor also notes the types and levels of insulation and the ventilation within the building. The Assessor will inspect all rooms within the house, will inspect the hot water cylinder and will also need access to the attic space. The surveyor also records details on the central heating system, any secondary heating, water heating and main appliances such as the cooker and lighting. When the survey has been completed, the surveyor transfers the data collected into the DEAP computer programme to produce a building energy rating for the property.
The Site Surveyor will also provide a recommended list of energy efficiency measures and demonstrate the benefit of these measures in terms of reduced running costs, improved energy rating score and reduced CO2 emissions.
